Naidu on state visits to inspect project progress
In a major initiative towards providing immediate decision-making and ending red tapism, senior Cabinet minister M. Venkaiah Naidu has been embarking on travel across state capitals with his officials to resolve issues related to three of his departments —Urban development, housing and urban poverty alleviation and information and broadcasting.
The projects that are pending or facing trouble are also sorted out at meetings that are attended by the state governments and its officials, sources stated.
It is understood that the decision to travel across the country came with a view to fast-track government projects and remove all roadblocks. The move takes inspiration from the minister himself, who went on such trips across the country during his stint as the BJP chief to strengthen the organisational set up of the party.
As part of these tours, Mr Naidu also conducts on the spot inspections of projects that have been completed or are under process of completion, sources added.
The minister ensures that senior officials of all three of his ministries accompany him in these tours. Sources stated that meetings with state governments and their respective ministers are conducted so as to streamline all the aspects related to his ministries.
Over the past few weeks the minister has also made some significant announcements, like the establishment of 24x7 dedicated Doordarshan channels for states of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand during his visits, sources added. Such meetings have so far been held in Guwahati (for the Northeast states), Raipur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ranchi and Chandigarh.
