- AGE CORRESPONDENT NEW DELHI, JUNE 6

A 21-year-old woman was killed and a 32-year-old injured when they were hit by a car in Northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar on Tuesday morning. The victim was five months pregnant.

The police has arrested the accused and begun investigation. He does not have a driving license.

The incident was reported at 8 am when Pooja (21) and Kamlesh (32) were washing utensils outside an under-construction building where they reside with their families. A car driven by 25-yearold cleaner Krishna hit them after which they were rushed to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital.

Pooja was declared brought on arrival and Kamlesh was referred to Lok Nayak JaI Prakash Narayan Hospital because of the severity of her injuries.

According to the police, Krishna, who used to clean cars in E-Block of Ashok Vihar Phase 1, was cleaning businessman Manoj Jain’s car and decided to try his hand at driving. “He doesn’t know how to drive properly. He put the car in gear and lost control. Instead of applying brakes, he pressed the accelerator and hit the women,” said a senior police officer, adding that there was a wall right next to where the two were washing utensils so they got stuck.

Scared, Krishna fled from the spot but returned later after which the police arrested him.

The police said that no driver’s license was recovered from Krishna’s possession on Tuesday. Krishna is a native of Uttar Pradesh who has been working in the capital for the last couple of years. Pooja used to stay at the under-construction building with her husband Ram Prasad and a two-year-old child while Kamlesh also used to stay in the same building with her husband.
