- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Hyderabad shuttler B. Sai Praneeth has hit a new high after winning two back-to-back titles and is looking forward to extending his winning streak in forthcoming events.

Fitter the player, the better his reply to opponents. Asked about his consistency, Praneeth said: “Fitness plays a key role to be consistent for me and for both events, I was fit enough to clinch gold. The success was due to six to seven weeks of rigorous practice sessions I put in.

“If I am fit, I can win more titles in future,” the 24-year-old champion added at an interaction with reporters at the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy here.

Praneeth’s Indonesian coach Mulyo Handoyo has scheduled his training sessions to get him fit and consistent. He said that his game style hasn’t changed but the new training schedule has surely made him a better player. Thanks to Handoyo.

“I am prepared well. Now I have just four days left (for Indonesian Open).

I am playing well and am fit. I will continue my training and get ready for upcoming tournaments,” Praneeth said.

Also, the “World Championship is a very big event and I am really looking forward to it. For the Worlds, I have six weeks time (after the Indonesian and Australian Open). That is enough time to prepare. If I train for five to six weeks continuously I think it’s enough for me,” Praneeth added.

Praneeth won the Singapore Open defeating compatriot Kidambi Srikanth while the Thailand Grand Prix title earned him more applause.

National chief coach Pullela Gopichand appreciated his ward for the outstanding performances in both title wins and encouraged him to work harder for the forthcoming Indonesia Open, Australia Open and Badminton World Championship scheduled to start from August 21.

“I am very happy that Praneeth has won his second tournament this year. He has performed well and I hope this serves as a motivation for the future as well and we will continue to have more results from him in the next few months and years,” Gopi said.

“In fact in the last few days we had some great success. At the Sudirman Cup championship also, our team had a very good outing. All the players — singles as well doubles — performed exceptionally well at the event,” he said.
