‘Man killed by mob not a molester’

Deceased didn’t molest or disrobe girl, victim’s mom tells cops

-

A day after a 25-year-old accused of molesting a four-year-old girl succumbed to his injuries, the victim’s family has told the police that the girl wasn’t disrobed or molested.

The victim’s family had earlier complained that deceased Sanjay, alias Golu, had tried to sexually assault their daughter after having taken her to the Jheel Park in Pandav Nagar where a crowd spotted him and thrashed him on June 8. On Sunday, her mother said the daughter told them that he had neither disrobed or molested but added that his action raised questions.

“My daughter told us that she was not disrobed. Even though he took her away, he did not try to force himself on her. She is not saying much since the incident as she is under shock after witnessing the subsequent thrashing. Having said that, why would the man take her away in the first place. He had intentions to do something wrong,” said the mother.

The girl’s grandmother said that he disappeared with the child in a matter of minutes.

“She was playing near the place where I sell vegetables. She said she wanted to buy chowmein from a shop which is just a couple of steps away. When I gave her `5 to buy noodles he arrived there and took her away,” said the grandmother.

For the police, meanwhile, the mob remains anonymous. They have added Sections of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the rape case but yet to identify any member of the mob.

In and around the park where the incident took place, no one admitted to being present at the spot at the time the man was lynched. However, many claimed that there were people who have also shot the video of the scene when the man was beaten by mob.

It is alleged that the man first took the girl to the park from a broken wall instead of the main entrance and then walked for sometime. He then kept the girl on the floor next to the lake inside the park and removed a cloth he had wrapped around the lower portion of his body.

“It was then that somebody spotted him. They dragged him to an electric pole on which the lights are mounted and started thrashing him. They used stones to beat him badly, even before he could explain himself. The incident took place late evening when there are few people presents and even then most of them are drug addicts,” said Ravi Kumar, a local.

“We are trying to get more and more details about the incident. We are trying to procure if there was any mobile footage of the incident when the man was thrashed,” said a senior police official.
