Youth tries to rob grandparen­ts, held

Elderly woman loses tooth in scuffle

A 20-year-old man allegedly attacked his grandparen­ts after attempting to rob them at their house in Outer Delhi’s Rohini on Saturday. Accused Rajat and his friend Rishabh (23) were caught neighbours after the elderly couple raised an alarm and handed over to the police.

The incident was reported in Rohini Sector 7 area. Rajat’s friend Rishabh gained friendly entry into the house of 76-year-old Ramlal Muglani on the pretext of repairing a gas stove. Minutes later, Rajat forced entered into the house. He had covered his face with a helmet.

The police said that Rajat was aware that his grandparen­ts had recently sold a house and got a

good sum of money as token amount of property deal that was around `10 lakh. Rajat had hatched the plan to rob his grandfathe­r with the help of his friend.

When Mr Muglani took Rajat’s friend to the kitchen, he heard screams of his wife Shakuntala from the other room. They were carrying a toy gun and a hammer.

An unnerved Muglani rushed to the room and saw another man wearing a helmet pointing a pistol at his wife Shakuntala. However, elderly woman raised an alarm and alerted neighbours. In an attempt to stop her from raising alarm, Rajat hit her on face. In the retaliator­y assault, Shakuntala lost a tooth and suffered other injuries.

After hearing screams from the house, neighbours rushed to their help and caught hold of the two men. The duo was arrested before they could rob anything.

“The duo has been arrested under relevant Section of the IPC. The victim told that the accused Rajat is son of his elder daughter, who is married in Laxmi Nagar area. And Rishabh is his friend. Rajat is a BA LLB first year student of IP University while Rishabh is a Class 12 drop out,” said a senior police official.
