LLORIS BACKS POGBA

-

London, June 15: France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has backed Paul Pogba to prove his worth at Manchester United after being subject to considerable criticism in his first season back in the Premier League. Midfielder Pogba re-joined United for a world record fee of 89 million pounds in August 2016 but his performances in the ensuing campaign underwhelmed some of the Old Trafford faithful. “Maybe he had some things to prove, because he belongs to one of the best clubs in the world and he plays in the Premier League, and he has to show his level,” the 30-year-old told The Telegraph. Lloris also said that France had to combine the natural ability in the squad with plenty of hard work if they were to win the World Cup for a second time next year. “We have a lot of players who are very unpredictable, because in one versus one they can make the difference... That’s one skill for our national team. But that’s not enough, to be very competitive and to have ambition to win trophies.” Redknapp eyes

Terry scoop Former England captain John Terry has been made an offer by second tier outfit Birmingham City, their manager Harry Redknpapp revealed on Thursday.

Terry, 36, is leaving champions Chelsea after 22 trophy-laden years and has attracted interest from Premier League side Bournemouth as well as Birmingham’s Championship rivals Aston Villa.

However, Redknapp told Talksport radio he had persuaded the Birmingham board to make an offer to the central defender, who has said he might hang up his boots altogether.

“He’s a fantastic captain and great leader,” said Redknapp. “We’ve made him a good offer and we have done the best we can. It’s up to John now, but we would love him at Birmingham.”

The 24-year-old left the field in obvious pain in the 33rd minute of Tuesday’s match in Doha, clutching his right forearm after an aerial challenge.

“He had his right forearm fractured and will undergo surgery by the end of the week,” Lee Jae-Chul, spokesman for Korea Football Association told AFP, adding they expect it will take about four weeks for him to recover.

United complete Lindelof signing Manchester United on Wednesday completed the signing of Swedish international centreback Victor Lindelof from Benfica for a fee believed to be £31 million, the English Premier League side announced. Lindelof joined Benfica from hometown club Vasteras SK in 2012 and won three Portuguese league titles and two Portuguese Cups during his time in Lisbon. Lindelof is the second centre-back signed by United manager Mourinho following last year’s capture of Ivory Coast international Eric Bailly from Villarreal.
