Informers to check female foeticide

-

Lucknow, June 24: UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday launched the ‘Mukhbir Yojna’ to stop female foeticide.

He also flagged off rescue vans for 64 districts.

Speaking at the function, the chief minister said that discrimination began from within families and to check discrimination in society, discrimination in the family must be checked.

He said that the “police informer programme” was a good initiative but care had to be taken to ensure it was not misused.

He said, “All of us face the challenge of reducing the abysmal female sex ratio in the society. In some places in UP, the female sex ratio is very poor when compared to the male sex ratio. The government is placing special emphasis to improve this scenario”.

The chief minister added he would not restrict himself to announcements and promises but would work on them.

“Our government works without any discrimination. We are extending the women helpline number 181 to 75 districts because the safety and security of women is our main concern. This facility was earlier available in only 11 districts,” he said.

Talking about women security, the chief minister said, “We need to give special emphasis on places in UP which have an abysmal female sex ratio. Further, we need to undertake pilot projects to address the issue in such places”.

Minister of women welfare Rita Bahuguna Joshi said the rescue van and police informer programmes would benefit women. Asha Jyoti Kendras in all districts will work on reducing female infanticide and crime against women.
