Jain, Chitale claim sub-junior titles
Delhi’s Payas Jain and Diya Chitale of Maharashtra emerged champions in the subjunior boys and girls categories in the 11Even Sports national ranking (Central Zone) table tennis championships in Indore on Saturday.
Payas defeated Jeho H. of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board Academy 4-1 (8-11, 11-7, 2321, 11-9, 11-8) in the final at the Abhay Prashad Indoor Stadium.
Payas was aggressive throughout against the defensive-minded Jeho, who nonetheless put up a good fight.
Diya beat West Bengal’s Munmun Kundu 4-1 (6-11, 11-8, 11-2, 11-4, 11-9) in the final of the girls’ section. Munmum began well but Diya proved to be a hard nut to crack, launching herself into shots and gradually taking control of the proceedings.
In the cadet boys’ final, Preyesh Raj Suresh began his season on a winning note beating Goa’s Shantesh Mapsekar 4-0 (11-9, 11-9, 11-9, 11-7).
Haryana’s Suhana Saini won the cadet girls title beating Pritha Vartikar of Maharashtra 5-2 (9-11, 12-10, 11-8, 6-11, 11-5, 611, 11-6). Results: Sub-junior boys: Payas Jain (DEL) bt Jeho H.
