Villagers attack police during raid

Lucknow: A police team was attacked by a mob in Muzaffarnagar district on Tuesday after they conducted raids following a tip-off about cow slaughter taking place in the area. The police had received information of the cow slaughter activity in the Nagar Kotwali area but nothing was found. While returning, the cops found some people selling meat on the roadside and started inquiring. The villagers surrounded the cops and attacked them. The crowd pelted stones and damaged the police vehicles. The villagers claim police regularly indulged in extortion of locals selling buffalo meat.
