68 IAS officers under DoPT lens over graft

- AGE CORRESPONDENT NEW DELHI, JUNE 27

The department of personnel and training is probing the involvement of 39 IAS officers in cases of either alleged corruption or some other irregularities. In addition to this, the role of 29 officers from the Central Secretariat Service is also under scanner. The DoPT is the central nodal and cadre controlling agency for these Group A services, which deals with their departmental proceedings. Proceedings against these 69 senior officers were initiated on the basis on their service records and some complaints. The exercise is a part of the government’s initiative to help improve governance system and service delivery among the bureaucracy. According to service rules, performance of senior officers is reviewed twice during their tenure. While the first one is done 15 years after joining of the service, the second one is carried out after 25 years.

The DoPT officials claimed the process will identify and remove nonperformers from the system. The DoPT has already started the process to review the service records of 67,000 Central government employees.
