Floodwater inundates Kaziranga, animals move towards hills
The flood situation in Assam has worsened with over 4 lakh people affected across 13 districts of the state.
Incessant rains has triggered floods and lanslides in various parts of the Northeast, including Arunachal Pradesh, where road communication to several districts has been cut off.
The road between Itanagar and Naharlagun has remained cut off since Saturday with a landslide
taking away its major portion.
The rising water level of Brahamaputra has also inundated a vast area of Kaziranga National Park where animals have started migrating towards the hills of Karbi Anglong, park officials said, adding that they had taken adequate measures to ensure that the animals could migrate to safer locations.
The forest guards are monitoring the speed of vehicles crossing the national highways that passes through the park to avoid casualty of animals.
Meanwhile, the flood has affected over 800 villages across the state. The worst-affected is Karimganj district, where over 1.59 lakh people have been affected by the deluge, followed by Lakhimpur with more than 81,000 affected.
The state administration has set up 145 relief camps in which over 21000 people are taking shelter, so far.
Due to the flood waters, many roads, embankments and bridges have been damaged in Lakhimpur, Cachar, Dhemaji, Biswanath, Majuli and Karimganj districts.
The floodwater has also hit standing crops in 14,884 hectares of agricultural land in the state. Most of the affected farmlands are located in Jorhat and Dhemaji districts.
