Reddy starts favourite at National Racing

- AGE CORRESPOND­ENT internatio­nal racers, Paolo Ippolito from Italy and Ricky Capo from Australia.

The 20th edition of the JK Tyre- FMSCI National Racing Championsh­ip will be held at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore with two internatio­nal racers slated to line up along with the country’s top drivers to mark the occasion.

This year, race organizers will also introduce a comprehens­ive bike category, the Suzuki Gixxer Cup.

“We are really excited about this season,” Sanjay Sharma, head of JK Motorsport, said. “Not only is it going to be bigger and grander but we will also have a two- wheeler category for the first time.”

The Euro JK 17 category, featuring FB02 formula cars, will be the main attraction, with defending champion Anindith Reddy starting as the early favourite on a packed grid.

Seventeen- year- old Mira Erda ( Vadodara), who will become the first lady driver to compete in the Euro JK 17, will also be keenly watched.

The Gixxer Cup will also add to the occasion with 30 young bikers, including two women, set to hit the track. The racers were selected after tryouts in Bengaluru, Aizawl, Pune and the National Capital Region, as many as eight making the grade from the Mizoram capital alone in the rookie category that will act as an India platform for the Red Bull Rookie Cup — Road to MotoGP in Spain.
