Leaked: Microsoft working on new WP10 smartphone

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Microsoft may be working towards a mobile reboot, which would include a dramatic makeover of Windows 10 Mobile, as well as a brand new device which brings the company close to its competition in the enterprise market.

Although the software will be based on the Composable Shell or as it is called CShell, which represents a common shell for all Windows devices, it seems like the hardware strategy is already on a fairly advanced stage now.

According to what Microsoft watcher, Brad Sams states, the Redmond software giant is already working on a “mobile-type” device and, what’s more, this is already been spotted around campus.

Details are sketchy right now, and a mobiletype device means it could be a tablet or a smartphone. The chances are however high that Microsoft could be working on a smartphone. The reason being standard tablets do not seem to align with Microsoft’s hardware push as of now. Interestingly, however, the new mobile device is not being developed as part of the Surface division, Sams says, with Alex Kipman currently in charge of it. Kipman is the man who heads the HoloLens project, so this could be an indication that Microsoft is betting bit on AI for its future phone. There’s a good chance the new device runs Windows 10 on ARM and be based on CShell. This means that even if the device being already spotted on Microsoft’s campus, there are many things to improve before that. So if this project ever gets to see the light of the day it could be a 2018 launch.
