Police is hunting for the fifth absconding member of the gang
The Delhi police busted a gang that would rob innocent people by impersonating as police officers in West Delhi.
The police has arrested four persons in this connection. It has recovered two luxury cars used in the crimes, a mobile phone, and a walkietalkie. With their arrest, the police has also been able to solve five cases.
According to police, on the intervening night of June 10 and 11, complainant Dinesh Kumar was waiting on Pankha Road at Janak Puri around 9.30 pm. He was on his way to Anand Vihar railway station when two of the gang members offered him a lift. They had introduced themselves as police officers. Later, they abandoned the victim in a desolated area and sped away with his belongings. The victim had given his mobile phone, cash, and ATM card to the fake officers. The accused withdrew `80,000 using the ATM card.
The police took up a probe on July 23 after receiving a tip-off about the gang. The gang, headed by Rohit along with Pawan, Suraj, and Deepak, was to commit a robbery near the DESU Colony. A raiding team, led by inspector Manoj Kumar along with SI Charan Singh, was constituted to nab the robbers.
A strategic trap was laid and at about 7 pm in the area. A white Swift Dzire was seen coming from Uttam Nagar terminal side. The secret source identified the vehicle as belonging to the gang. Immediately, the raiding party intercepted the car and apprehended the four members.
On sustained interrogation, accused Rohit disclosed that he and Deepak are cousins. They wanted to make quick and easy money. To impersonate as police officers, they had purchased an old Tata Manza car for `1 lakh on instalment and a wireless set as used by officers from Lajpat Rai market. They fed a recorded police transmitted message of an incident on the wireless set, which they used to lure victims.
One of their associates, Ashish, is still at large.
