A cricket match turned bloody on Tuesday evening in South Delhi’s Mehrauli area after a scuffle broke out between two groups, who in the melee, left four youth with stab wounds with a swiss knife.

The police said that the incident took place on Tuesday at Jamali Kamali Park in Mehrauli, a few hundred metres from Qutab Minar. The scuffle broke because the groups couldn’t agree on would would get to play on the pitch first.

According to the police, the members of the two groups were aged around 18 years old. One of the group members named Sandeep was in an inebriated state. They had returned after celebrating a birthday party and were under the influence of beer. At around 5 pm another group of local youth, led by 18-year-old Abdul Samad, arrived at the ground and demanded that the pitch be vacated for them. But since the first group was yet to complete their game, they insisted they be allowed to finish.

The argument turned violent and the two groups indulged in a clash. “Samad and his group opened a multi-purpose kit containing a small knife and attacked the other party. The assailants fled the spot after thrashing and stabbing Sandeep and his three friends,” said the police.

Samad was also injured in the clash. When a police team reached the crime spot, they found Samad lying injured. He was taken to the AIIMS trauma centre. Soon, the police spotted the other four stabbed members and moved them to the hospital for treatment.

“The injuries received by all the victims were not critical in nature. Three of them have been discharged from the hospital.

The police has managed to identify all the persons suspected to be involved in the clash. They have been called for questioning and their parents have been advised to discipline their wards,” said a senior police officer.
