Man forced to drink acid-like liquid after tiff

In a bizarre incident, a group of men unable to buy paneer (cottage cheese) allegedly force-fed an acid-like liquid to a 20year-old youth at his shop in Southeast Delhi’s Sangam Vihar on Wednesday.

The police said that a man had gone to buy paneer from the victim’s shop, but when he found out that it wasn’t available, he started to abuse the victim. Later, he brought a few of his friends to the shop and force-fed a chemical substance to the youth. The victim is admitted to AIIMS and is said to be critical.

Probe reveals that the victim, Yogesh, runs a milk shop in Sangam Vihar and lives with his parents and sister.

According to the police, the prime accused, identified as Golu, had reportedly got involved in a verbal spat with the victim a day before the incident.

A senior police officer said that the incident came to light after the victim’s sister informed the police and narrated the entire chain of events.

“The family stated that a day before the incident, Golu had walked into the shop and asked for some paneer. At that time they had run out of the item and communicated the

same. This infuriated the accused, who abused the victim and left the shop,” said a police officer.

Unable to take “no” for an answer, Golu came back the following day with a gang of men. They barged into the victim’s shop and fed him a chemical substance in front of his sister. Initially, the victim did not feel anything. However, later he started to feel a burning sensation, which was when he realised that he had been fed acid, his family members alleged.

He was taken to a nearby hospital from where he was referred to AIIMS for further treatment. The police has not confirmed whether the substance was an acid and has roped in forensic teams to ascertain the identity of the substance.

A case under relevant sections has been registered.
