Man hires contract killer to shoot kin

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

A 22-year-old contract killer, who was hired for `5 lakh to kill an education official, was arrested by the Delhi police on Friday.

On July 25, S.D. Sharma, a resident of Ghaziabad, who was posted as an assistant director in the education department at the civil lines on Lucknow Road, was shot at by unidentified assailants in Timarpur.

The police said that the relative who hired the contract killer, Bheema, is the brother of the daughter-in-law of the education official. Cops have already arrested the 21-year-old relative, who works as an event organiser in Delhi-NCR.

According to a senior police officer, the relative hatched the murder plan because he was enraged with the official and thought that he was responsible for his sister’s disturbed married life. The woman, an engineer holding MBA degree, got married to the education official’s son around two years ago. She has an eightmonth-old son from the wedlock.

In June 2017, the woman filed an FIR at the Vikaspuri police station and accused the education official of allegedly molesting her. In her complaint, she also accused her husband, an IT engineer, of allegedly subjecting her to unnatural sex and cruelty with his parents and other family members. Following the FIR, she left her in-laws’ house.

Jatin Narwal, deputy commissioner of police (north), said that the woman’s brother was arrested two days after the incident. On July 25, when the official was returning home in his company car, he was fired at.

“The relative’s role in the crime was confirmed after we found his scooter parked near the crime scene,” added Mr Narwal.
