Infiltration bid foiled in J&K, 5 militants killed
Jawan hurt in ceasefire violation
Srinagar, Aug. 7: The Army on Monday foiled a major infiltration attempt by militants to cross over from Pakistanoccupied Kashmir (PoK) into the Machhil sector by killing five ultras.
“A major infiltration bid was foiled today in the Machhil sector by alert troops,” a defence spokesman said here.
He said five militants, who were trying to cross the LoC, were killed in the operation which was going on when reports last came in.
During search, five weapons were recovered by the Army, the spokesman said.
This year, the Army has foiled a total of 22 infiltration bids and killed around 40 terrorists trying to cross the Line of Control (LoC).
Meanwhile, an Army jawan was injured on Monday in a ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops along the LoC in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, an official said.
Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing towards an Indian post in the Uri sector, resulting in injuries to a jawan, an Army official said.
He said the injured soldier has been taken to the Army hospital here for treatment.
Further details of the incident are awaited, he added.
Security forces have also launched a cordon and search operation in Pulwama district’s Pinglena village, following specific inputs about presence of terrorists.
