Cong: BJP trying to hush up probe into stalking case
The Congress on Monday hit out at the ruling BJP for conspiring to hush up the investigation in the stalking of a girl in Chandigarh.
The case pertains to a girl who was allegedly stalked and chased by the son of the Haryana state BJP president.
Speaking to reporters, Congress spokesperson and Haryana MLA Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “The Union home ministry, which directly controls UT administration and UT police of Chandigarh, is conspiring to hush up the entire matter, so as to protect the Haryana state BJP president and his son. Will Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah answer to the nation as to why the BJP state president and his children are being protected in this fashion.”
Mr. Surjewala also accused the DSP of Chandigarh police Mr Satish Kumar who is probing the case, of changing his statement under pressure from the central government.
The Congress also released three videos of the DSP’s statement and the woman narrating the incident.
Former Union minister and Congress leader Manish Tewari asked that how was it possible that
the CCTV footage of the cameras in the area were unavailable. Mr. Tewari said, “Isn’t it convenient that the CCTV cameras in that same area were not working? We would like to know whether the said CCTV cameras issued any traffic chalans during that time.”
The issue has now taken a political turn with the Congress accusing the BJP of having double standards when it comes to its own leaders.
Mr Surjewala said, “Why double standards are being adopted by the BJP is a question that the country wants the Prime Minister, BJP president and others to answer.”
The BJP has said that the doings of the son could not be blamed on the father. Haryana chief minister ML Khattar said that the guilty would not be spared.
