MELODY MATTERS

- One song on repeat on your iPod these days: Soja Zara by Bahubali 2

Kolkata-based singer Madhushree made her Bollywood debut with Rajesh Roshan’s Moksha. Soon, she was noticed by AR Rahman for her voice. While she has crooned for films like Rang De Basanti, Kisna and Jodhaa Akbar, it was the song Kabhi Neem Neem from Yuva that got her the recognition, once again a Rahman project. In a candid chat, we talk to her about her musical favourites.

If you had to put together a soundtrack for your life, three songs that best describe your life would be? Lag ja gale from Wohi Kaun Thi; Tum jo mil gaye ho from the film Hanste Zakhm; and Tu Bin Bataye from Rang De Basanti!

Is there a song you love to listen to when: You’re really low: Kabhi khud pe kabhi halat pe rona by Mohammed Rafi You’re working out: Jiyo re from Bahubali 2

Any music you used to love as a kid or a teenager that you’re now embarrassed by when you think back: I can’t say about any music that I have been embarrassed about because I have only come to appreciate them. For instance, being a kid I didn’t understand Rabindra sangeet, but today I love it.

Define your taste in music: It has to be music that takes me to a different stage in life.

Your favourite time to listen to music: There is no such time when I don’t listen to music.

One band or musican that you would like to perform a private concert: The philharmonic Orchestra of London

One live act you would love to see at least once in your life: I would love to see Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha act on Ye Kahan Aa Gaye Hum live.
