Agencies worried over Hindu moles

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

The Uttar Pradesh AntiTerrorist Squad arrested Raghvendra Ahirwar, a stenographer in the office of the SDM, Jhansi, for allegedly passing on sensitive military information to a ‘Major’ posted in the Babina cantonment.

Mr Ahirwar is the second Hindu ISI sympathiser to be arrested from UP in the past one month. The ATS on tipoff by intelligence agencies raided the SDM office and found out that Mr Ahirwar was passing on information about firing and shelling drills of the Army for the past nine years to Pakistan agencies.

Mr Ahirwar, when questioned, admitted that one Major Yadav, who called him from different mobile numbers on which call back facility was not allowed, used to take information from him. The Major was apparently posted in Babina. The stenographer never tried to verify as to why Major Yadav sought such information. In July, the stenographer, who was transferred to ADM office, said that he passed on the information about which unit will undertake firing practice and where by opening a ‘red tape’ letter.

“This is a disturbing trend wherein Hindus are being lured into anti-national activities by Pakistan-based agencies. The arrests of Sharma and Ahirwar could just be the tip of the iceberg. It is clear that both were doing this for money. Due to rampant unemployment in UP, we don’t know how many more Hindu men are working for Pak,” said a senior cop, requesting anonymity.

“The belief that Muslim boys were likely to be Pakistan sympathisers is no longer relevant; the Pakistan-based agencies must have changed their tactics.”
