Lenovo Ideapad 710s review: Be jealous, Apple!

- MOINAK PAL

In an era when Apple’s MacBook Air has been dominating the ultra-portable segment, manufacturers from the Windows universe have been plotting ways to thwart it and it seems Lenovo might have found the answer. The `82,790 Ideapad 710S with its magnesium alloy chassis surely challenges the MacBook Air in terms of looks.

The 13.3-inch full-HD display with its antiglare finish makes watching movies in broad daylight easy. The colour reproduction, as expected from a laptop of this stature, is vibrant.

The Ideapad 710S is equipped with the Intel “Skylake” 7th generation Core-i5 processor with Intel’s Iris graphics, 8GB of LPDDR3-1866 RAM and 256GB of PCIe solid-state storage, the 710S is more than ready to go toe-to-toe with the MacBook Air.

The Core-i5 has two cores running at 2.3GHz and also features Turbo Boost dynamic

frequency

of up to 2.8GHz and runs on Windows 10 OS. The storage is a 256GB Solid State Drive, which means transfer speeds will be pretty high. The notebook gave us a good 6+ hours of usage, which included movies, music, casual gaming, and lots of browsing. Considering this performance, we think it is possible to cross the 8-hour mark if we run the notebook on battery saver mode. To conclude, the Lenovo Ideapad 710S is a great bargain if you are not an Apple fan, but are in need of an ultra-portable ‘Windows’ workhorse. With a price tag of `82,790, the Ideapad is aimed for the constant traveller who is looking for light luggage, without compromising on computing performance.
