Govt to build 5,012 houses for the EWS

The Delhi government on Tuesday cleared the constructi­on of 5,012 houses for the economical­ly weaker sections (EWS) at an estimated cost of `654 crore at three locations in the city.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvemen­t Board (DUSIB), chaired by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. Delhi urban developmen­t minister Satyendar Jain also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the board granted administra­tive approval and expenditur­e sanction for `654.33 crore for constructi­on of the EWS houses.

“As many as 3,780 EWS

houses will be constructe­d in Pocket-F Bhalswa in Jahangirpu­ri expenditur­e of which will be `493.40 crore, 784 EWS houses at Dev Nagar in Karol Bagh costing `102.28 crore and 448 EWS houses will be built at Kasturba Niketan in Lajpat Nagar at an expenditur­e of `58.65 crore,” an official statement said.

All these housing complexes will be 14-storeyed each. The board will request the Delhi government to allocate `500 crore as seed money for taking up the proposed projects.

The DUSIB budget for the financial year 2017-18 was Rs 381.47 crore — `165.72 crore under the non-plan head and `215.75 crore for plan funds.

The board also ratified the decision to set up 50 mohalla clinics on its land in different JJ Resettleme­nt colonies. It also approved setting up of Early Childhood Care and Education Centre by allotting 10 Basti Vikas Kendras to the Ambedkar University in associatio­n with the directorat­e of higher education.
