Teenager shot at over tiff in kabaddi match

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

An 18-year-old was shot at by two assailants following a dispute over the score in a kabaddi match being played between two blocks in Southeast Delhi’s Dakshinpuri, on Sunday.

At 8.20 pm, a kabbadi match was being played between two teams — C block and 20 block — at a park. A dispute arose between the two sides over the score and the midline.

Both the sides got into an argument and accused the other of not playing a fair game, the police said. Meanwhile, two spectators, who were supporting the C block kabaddi team, also jumped into the argument and started accusing the team members of 20 block team of cheating.

One of the two persons then whipped out a pistol and shot at Avinash, who was playing for the 20 block team.

As soon as people heard the gunshot, they started running every which way. However, someone informed the police, who arrived at the spot soon. Avinash

was rushed to Batra Hospital, where he has been operated upon and is said to be stable.

“The bullet grazed his skull,” said DCP (Southeast) Romil Baaniya.

Both assailants have been identified and teams have been formed to nab them, added the officer. It is suspected that one of them is a juvenile.

Avinash’s family told the police that he plays kabaddi at the state level.
