The Noida income tax commissioner, said he was reporting theft of a firm’s case records for 1997-98 from the office of the deputy commissioner of income tax

However, there is no direct evidence of involvement of any person other than these two IRS officials, he said.

“Both IRS officials have strong motives to steal the case records of the said company as between them they had committed grave illegalities in that case to defraud the public exchequer of `50 crores,” said Mr Srivastava in his police complaint.

In his FIR, he said that he issued formal orders to one of the IRS official to act strictly as per law. On receiving formal orders, the official rejected the application of the said firm, which meant that both the accused didn’t gety the expected bribes.

“Because of constant demands for bribe by one of the accused, I was uncomfortable working with him and sought a transfer. I was finally transferred in November 2003,” Mr Srivastava said.
