Panel on rehabilita­tion of traffickin­g victims formed

In a bid to rehabilita­te the victims of traffickin­g and commercial sex rackets, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has constitute­d a 16-member expert committee. The committee, headed by DCW member Promila Gupta, will comprise representa­tives of the Delhi police, nongovernm­ental organisati­ons and women’s wings of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Confederat­ion of Indian Industry.

a draft policy on the matter as also formulate proposals to rehabilita­te the victims.

“It will also assess the issues facing the children of commercial sex workers in G.B. Road area and develop an action plan to give life choices to such children,” a DCW official said. The committee would conduct visits, if required, to study experience­s in other states and seek best practices therein, the official said.

“The committee will draft a state-level policy for the rehabilita­tion of victims of sexual abuse. The committee will prepare models for the rehabilita­tion of victims of human traffickin­g. If required, the committee members will also visit other states to understand the schemes adopted for the rehabilita­tion of victims of traffickin­g. It will also understand the problems faced by the children of sex workers at G.B. Road and will formulate a plan for their future,” a DCW statement said.
