SDMC mayor blames AAP for ruckus in House

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

After being unable to convene a meeting without disruption, the ruling BJP in the SDMC on Wednesday passed the blame on to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members. Mayor of SDMC Kamaljeet Sehrawat criticised the opposition for creating disruption, ruckus and wasting the valuable time of the House.

Their (AAP members) behavior was irresponsible, uncalled for and against all democratic values, she said. According to her, the AAP members were requested to raise the issue during zero hour to enable the Leader of the House and the officers to provide detailed information, while answering the issue. “But they continued to raise slogans, display placards and shout loudly and entered the well of the House. They tarnished the House’s dignity and betrayed the established practices. They were bent upon raising the same issue, which had earlier been replied to,” she added.

Ms Sehrawat alleged that the ruling party has always been open to discuss any matter raised by the members from both the treasury and opposition benches. “To enhance the opportunity of raising issues in the House, the ruling party for the first time introduced the zero hour in the House. While the ruling party has always gave an opportunity to the members to express their views, in the Delhi Assembly the opposition's voice is more than often crushed and the members marshalled out,” she said.

She also alleged that the AAP members came with a plan to disrupt the House. “The members have not been elected to disrupt the House proceedings, waste valuable time and the amount being spent to hold the sitting of the House. Their behaviour was against all established practices,” she said.
