Belarus national’s camera snatched, 2 thieves held

Close on the heels of Ukraine Ambassador’s iPhone being snatched two weeks ago at Lal Qila, a camera of another foreign national was allegedly snatched away at Humayun Tomb while she was clicking a picture of the monument. In a swift action, the police within 12 hours nabbed the two thieves.

A team was constituted, which rounded up 300 offenders and checked the footage of five CCTV cameras. Later, the team conduted a raid and caught the accused

The police said the incident took place on Tuesday. The Belarus national, Volha Thomas, a photographer by profession, had come a visit to the capital around 10 days ago. Her husband Christopher is attached with a MNC in India.

On Tuesday, Ms. Thomas had gone to take photographs of Humayun’s Tomb in south Delhi when an alert thief snatched away her camera.

Ms. Thomas reported the matter to the police. A special team was formed and it rounded up 300 offenders and checked the footage of over five CCTV cameras. During the search, the footage of one CCTV camera showed the offenders which led to their arrest. On early Wednesday, the team conducted a raid and arrested the two accused, Samad and Salman.

Mr Samad is a habitual offender and has over a dozen of cases filed against him. Besides the duo, the police has apprehended many juveniles as well in this connection.
