Kashmir, cow issue top agenda at RSS meet

- RABINDRA NATH CHOUDHURY

Kashmir and cow protection issues would be high on the agenda at the threeday Akhil Bharatiya Karyakarta Mandal (ABKM) Baithak or allIndia national executive body meeting of the RSS, scheduled to begin here on October 12, Sangh sources said on Saturday.

The “crucial” meeting of the RSS body was set to deliberate on the Sangh’s long-standing demand of doing away with Article 370 to pave way for full integration of Jammu and Kashmir with India and violence triggered by cow vigilantism in some parts of the country.

“The ensuing national executive body meeting of the RSS is set to deliberate on many issues of national importance, including abolition of Article 370 and violent incidents linked to cow vigilantism witnessed in many parts of the country,” Sangh sources told this newspaper.

According to sources, the annual meeting, known in Sangh parlance as “Diwali Baithak”, is likely to take up other key issues such as “radical” economic reforms initiated by BJPled NDA government at the Centre and influx of Rohingya refugees.

“President, secretary, and organising secretaries holding each state units will take part in the meeting. Besides, around 300 prominent workers representing the RSS-affiliated organisations will also participate in the ABKM,” Deepak Sharma, publicity in-charge Madhya Bharat Prant, said here.

The RSS has recently held the Hindu Sammelan in tribal-dominated Betul district in Madhya Pradesh to review religious conversion of tribals and dalits.

In a related development, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat arrived here on Saturday to “review” performance of Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.

He closeted himself with senior RSS leaders and chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for nearly four hours, apparently to take stock of the political situation and performance of the state government, sources said.
