Microsoft no longer supports Office 2007

After ceasing security support for Windows XP, Microsoft has axed the official security support for another product from that era — Microsoft Office 2007. The product received its last security patch earlier this week.

The Office 2007 suite has been one of the widely used Microsoft Office packages in the recent times, with its full set of dedicated services. Some of the popular applications of Office 2007 include MS Word 2007, MS Powerpoint 2007, MS Excel 2007 and MS Outlook 2007.

With support for this product ceased, Microsoft has left users with two options — either subscribe to the Office 365 subscription or go for the Microsoft Office 2016 Suite, which contains the updated versions of widely used Microsoft applications. Existing Office 2007 users will still be able to use the applications, albeit with a heightened risk of being attacked by hackers through malicious documents or attachments.

Microsoft’s official statement says that “Office 2007 reaches the end of its support lifecycle this year, meaning there will be no new security updates, non- security updates, free or paid assisted support options, or online technical content updates. Customers who are using Office 2007 products and services should start planning to move to Office 365 or upgrade to supported versions of Office products and services, such as Office 2016.”
