In the wake of growing polarisation against Rohingiya, the Muslim Council of Dimapur, an apex body of Muslims in Nagaland, has decided to regulate mushrooming growth of “Pangajana masjids” (temporary mosques) in Nagaland.

The working president of the MCD Ahidur Rahman in a statement said that a decision in this regard was taken at a joint meeting of all Jame Masjid (permanent mosques) and Pangajana Masjid (temporary mosques) committees of Dimapur on September 17.

“Verification and registration of all the masjids would be done to access if at all some are necessary or not and whether proper norms of a masjid are being followed or not,” the MCD stated in a statement. It also urged upon all to cooperate with MCD, in case the council decides to close down some of prayer houses.

The decision is significant in the wake of a recent intelligence report of the Nagaland police, which said, “Rohingyas pose a serious threat to the security of Nagaland
