Quashing claims made by Jain Guru Gani Ranjendra Vijay, the Delhi police investigation found that he was last seen in Alipur area, thereafter, his mobile phone was switched off and following which he was reported missing, said the police on Sunday.

However, the Jain Guru claimed that he was allegedly kidnapped from Roop Nagar area in North District in a car.

The police said that it collected clues based on the digital footprints of the Jain Guru and the statement of one of the devotees who had accompanied him till Alipur. When police corroborated the findings with the Jain Guru, he quashed the earlier claims that he was kidnapped from Roop Nagar area and admitted that he went to Alipur.

“After the Jain Guru was reported missing, we sent police teams to Ludhiana, Sonepat, and Bagpat. Three persons have been detained in the case so far and the case is under investigation. In order to find out the drug the Jain Guru was administered by the kidnappers, the police has sent blood samples to the laboratory to ascertain its nature,” said a senior police official.

The official added that the Jain Guru is not cooperating with the police and is refusing to answer many of the questions. He has also asked the investigators to close the case as he does not want to pursue it and would prefer forgiving his kidnappers.

The police said that the day the Jain Guru went missing, he had gone to meet a person, who is also a member of the ashram.

On Saturday morning, the Jain Guru, who was allegedly kidnapped from the city on Thursday, was recovered from Ludhiana. A case of kidnapping was registered at the Roop Nagar police station.

The Jain Guru said that when he was on his way to the ashram in Roop Nagar, he was stopped by an acquaintance on the pretext of discussing an issue. Thereafter, someone injected him with sedative and kidnapped him.
