NCC begin campaign

Odisha’s Directorat­e General — NCC (Red), Jaipur’s Boys Hockey Academy, Krida Prabodhini of Pune and Imphal’s Jai Hind High School won in a high-scoring opening day of the 46th Nehru junior boys Under-17 hockey tournament at the MDC National Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday.

Odisha’s Directorat­e General – NCC (Red) began their campaign in style, thrashing Damodar High School from Goa 11-0 in a Pool A match.

Nabin Kujur distinguis­hed himself with four strikes (14th minute, 44th, 46th, 57th). The other scorers for the winning team were Vikas Lakra (24th, 57th), Rajay Minz (2nd), Wamukhem R. Singh (22nd), Minash Topno (26th), Ashutosh Malik (31st), Jay Prakash Patel (38th).

In Pool B, Jaipur’s Boys Hockey Academy began their campaign in a similarly impressive fashion, thumping Punjab Public School, Nabha (IPSC), 13-0.

Pawan Kumar scored five (49th, 54th, 57th, 65th, 68th). Hrithik Jagir netted four (17th, 26th, 45th, 50th), Shivam (19th, 41st, 53rd) and Ankit Rawat (55th).

Krida Prabodhini decimated Public School XI of Delhi 19-0 in Pool E. Rohan Patel and Gopal Mote scored six each, to lead their team’s charge. Dharyashil Jadav (three), Kaushik Tangie (two), Parmeshwar Pote and Rohan Patil scored one each.

Imphal’s Jai Hind High School rounded off the day’s proceeding­s with a 12-1 crushing off SDDN Senior Secondary School, Chhattisga­rh. Four players of Jai Hind High School (Talem Priyobata, Gurumayum D. Sharma, Sorensangb­am Amujao and Jabson Naorem) score two each. Kishan Murari netted the lone goal for SDDN.

There are five groups in the first phase fixtures and one team emerging on top of each group will qualify for the second phase.
