DAPHNE GALIZIA
Maltese journalist, Daphne Galizia, who had worked on the Panama Papers was killed in a car blast while she was leaving her house. The 53year-old journalist was a fierce critic of the Maltese government and was known as a “a one-woman WikiLeaks.” She is the 28th journalist killed for her work this year.
SHADIA BSEISO
Shadia Bseiso making her way into professional wrestling, is path-breaking as no Arab woman has ever gone to fight in the WWE. The 30year-old Jordania born is trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. According to Bseiso, she wants to encourage more Arab women to take up sports. And if possible, also crash a metal chair over WWE megastar John Cena!
GEORGE SAUNDERS
George Saunders is the second American ever to win the Man Booker Prize, Britain’s most prestigious literary award, for his novel, Lincoln in the Bardo. He is a celebrated writer of satirical short stories, but Lincoln in the Bardo is his first novel. According to Vox, the novel is characterised by its enormous empathy, and its belief that in order to connect with someone you must figuratively enter into their souls.
MEHBOOB KHAN
The first Olympian swimmer from India, Mehboob Khan, became a national hero in 1956, when he finished fifth at the Melbourne Olympics. No Indian swimmer has been able to beat Khan’s record of reaching the fifth place even after improved infrastructure and coaching facilities in the last six decades. The Olympic veteran never fought for recognition and assistance. He was suffering from health problems for a couple of years and died of a cardiac stroke.
AKSHAY RUPARELIA
Akshay Ruparelia of Indianorigin is UK’s youngest millionaire. The 19-year-old made his fortune selling houses through his online estate agency during his school lunch breaks. His website is the 18th biggest estate agency in the UK. Valued at `103.4 crore, his company has sold over £100 million worth of homes. He wants to end the way high street estate agents charge thousands of pounds in commission to sell a house.
