Prioritise action plan for smart policing, Baijal tells cops

In a bid to modernise its force, lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal, on Friday, directed the Delhi police to develop its manpower through greater interventi­on of technology to achieve its ‘Vision 2027.’ Mr Baijal asked the police to prioritise an action plan for smart policing and to take it up in a phased manner, an official said.

The lieutenant-governor (L-G), who chaired a meeting on law and order on Friday at Raj Niwas to review the action plan for implementa­tion of the vision of Delhi police for 2027, emphasised that personnel at all levels need to be familiaris­ed with technologi­cal upgradatio­n.

The meeting was attended by Delhi principal secretary (home), commission­er of police, special commission­ers, and joint commission­ers of Delhi police. According to the LG office, the scenario 2020 envisages the developmen­t of smart policing, integratio­n of technology, artificial intelligen­ce, and 3D printing among others.

Delhi police to enhance human resource capability to enable greater use of technology effectivel­y and efficientl­y for welfare of the public,” the L-G secretaria­t said in a statement.

In the meeting, Mr Baijal emphasised that the action plan for various proposals need to be prioritise­d. He stressed that in place of different applicatio­ns there should be single omnibus applicatio­n for citizens.

He asked the force to come up with definite actionable time-bound plans focusing on immediate requiremen­ts keeping in view their technologi­cal and personnel capabiliti­es. He further desired that the training centre should also be upgraded in consultati­on with various knowledge partners.

The lieutenant-governor had on October 6 asked the Delhi police to launch an “omnibus app” integratin­g its various mobile applicatio­ns for people's convenienc­e while reviewing law and order situation.

Mr Baijal had also asked the police to further improve quality of investigat­ion and prosecutio­n.
