Pawan wins

Player of the match Pawan Kumar scored four goals as Jaipur’s Boys Hockey Academy defeated Bihar’s Mukherjee Seminary School, Muzzafarpu­r, 6-2 in a Pool A match of the Commander G. Nandy Singh-46th Nehru junior boys hockey tournament at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in the capital on Friday.

Bimal Barjo opened the scoring for the Bihar boys in the 20th minute and held the advantage till half time.

In the action-packed second half, Jaipur boys upped the ante as Pawan fetched the equaliser in the 41st minute before Shoyab Akhtar snatched the lead within three minutes. There was no looking back for the Jaipur outfit as Shivam extended the tally before Pawan pumped in three consecutiv­e goals for a 6-1 cushion. Jagmohan Kispotta reduced the margin in the 68th minute for the Muzaffapur boys but could not go further.

In Pool B, Rajasthan’s Bhilawara Hockey Academy beat Government Boys Senior Secondary School, Ghuman Hera, Delhi, by the same margin.

Aniket Varun struck three goals and was adjudged player of the match. Aditya Singh posted a brace while Pradeep Singh Bisht added a goal for the winners.

Nitesh and Parvesh got on the score sheet for the Delhi school.

In other matches of the day, Ludhiana’s Malwa Khalsa Senior Secondary School downed One Thousand Hockey Legs 2-1 in Pool C and Pune’s Krida Prabodhini registered a 42 win over Jai Hind High School of Imphal in Pool D.
