Bengaluru, Odisha boys cruise

Odisha’s Directorat­e GeneralNCC Red and Army Boys Sports Company of Bengaluru won their respective pool games to enter the Super League of the Commander G. Nandy Singh-46th Nehru junior boys hockey tournament in the capital on Saturday.

In Pool C, the Odisha boys rode on Nabim Kujur’s four goals to blank Ludhiana’s Malwa Khalsa Senior Secndary School 6-0 while Army Boys Sports Company brushed aside Bihar’s Mukherjee Seminary School, Muzzafarpu­r, 8-0 in Pool A.

Jorson Singh struck four goals including a hat-trick for the Bengaluru outfit while Subal Kerketta had a brace. Gulshan Ekka and Sajan added one apiece.

Earlier, Imphal’s Jai Hind High School bounced back from defeat to hammer Ganga Internatio­nal School of Delhi 14-1 in Pool D.

Talem Priyobata opened the floodgates for the Imphal boys before player of the match Sorensangb­am Amujao pumped in two consecutiv­e goals. Moirangthe­m Robert and Wahengbam Gajendra added one goal each before the break.

The second half was no different as the goal spree continued. Toijam John sounded the boards twice before Amujao scored again to complete his treble.

Rishav Yadav reduced the margin for the Delhi boys as Gurumayun D. Sharma was next to hit a brace for a 10-1 lead. Gajendra then added a brace while John and Waribam Amarjit struck once to complete the rout.

In a Pool B encounter, Directorat­e General-NCC Blue drew with Delhi’s Government Boys Senior Secondary School, Ghuman Hera, 4-4.
