Jalandhar’s Government Senior Secondary School, Ladowali Road, continued their goal-scoring spree as they hammered St Ignatius High School, Gumla, 14-1 in a Super League Pool A match to qualify for the semi-finals of the Commander G. Nandy Singh46th Nehru junior boys hockey tournament in the capital on Monday. On Sunday, the Jalandhar boys eased past Krida Prabodhini of Pune 6-2.

Simranjeet Singh posted four goals, two each in either half, while Raman Kumar, Sudarshan Singh, Bablu Singh and Ajaypal Singh struck a brace each. Jaspreet Singh and Ranjodh Singh were others to got their names on the scoresheet for the winners while Ashim Tirkey got the only goal for St Ignatius.

In other matches, CRZ Senior Secondary School of Sonepat bounced back from a draw to beat Odisha’s Town High School, Sundargarg, 4-2 in Pool B while Chandigarh’s Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 37-B, beat Bhilwara Hockey Academy from Rajasthan 2-0 in a Pool C encounter.

Amandeep Singh scored twice in each half to steer the Chandigarh outfit home.

Later, CRZ rode on Parmeet’s brace to go past the Odisha boys. Deepak Ekka opened the scoring in the 5th minute for Town High School before player of the match Sunny Malik equalised in the 18th minute. Mahipal (27th) made sure Sonepat boys entered the second half with a 2-1 advantage.

After the break, the Odisha boys were again first to score as Amit Roshan Lakra (45th) sounded the boards to level scores at 22 but Parmeet (47th) was quick to snatch the lead back, scoring in the 54th minute to sink the Odisha outfit.
