BJP demands Speaker’s resignation

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Slamming Delhi Assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel for his letter addressed to the Delhi high court seeking withdrawal of a letter he had written alleging that a division bench of the court had passed orders against the legislature without ascertaining facts, the Delhi BJP on Friday demanded his resignation.

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari has said that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has shamed Delhiites with its anarchic working and earlier they degraded the administrative

Tiwari alleged that for the past three years development work has come to a standstill as the state was busy in a power struggle with the Centre and L-G

and constitutional set-up of the capital and have now shamed the legislature and the judiciary too. He alleged that for the past three years development work has come to a standstill in Delhi as the AAP government was busy in a power struggle with the Centre and L-G Anil Baijal.

“On the other hand the government has misused the people’s mandate by raking up controversies and instroducing and approving unlawful bills,” he said.

The city BJP president claimed that questions have been constantly raised on the role of Mr Goel for allowing this misuse of Delhi Assembly, but the news of the speaker writing a letter to the high court has shocked all.

“It is an attack on the relation between the two pillars of democracy — the legislature and the judiciary,” he added.

“As per information gathered through media reports, the contents of the letter were as objectionable as the language of the bills and resolutions brought in the Delhi Assembly. The application moved by Mr Goel in the high court seeking withdrawal of the letter within a couple of days shows that he knew that writing this letter is unconstitutional,” he said.

Mr Tiwari said the decision to allow or deny the letter’s withdrawal was the high court’s prerogative and the BJP will not like to comment on it, but after this misdeed, Mr Goel has no moral right to continue as the speaker and must resign.
