- AGE CORRESPONDENT CHENNAI, NOV. 5

The Sun smiled on Sunday on Chennaiites who had been affected by the torrential rains. The BJP reached out to displaced families offering them food and clothing. Party president Dr Tamiliai Soundararajan, who visited several places inundated by rainwater, took a dig at those faulting the government in tackling the situation and said the need of the hour is to help the affected and not to slander. “I am now focused only on helping the rain-hit families. Let’s deal later with those who find fault for a selfish reason”, she said. Accompanied by a large number of her party members, Dr Tamilisai visited several places that were inundated and distributed food and clothing.

At Madhavaram, when she visited the marooned areas where the residents complained about the motor pump engaged to bale out water from the area did not work. They sought her help to mend it. They also urged her to prevail upon the government to utilise the entire `20 crore that has been allotted only for the relief and restoration work.

Later in the evening, Union Minister of State for Finance and Sh-ipping, Pon Radhak-rishnan, Dr Tamilisai and other senior leaders visited the Chennai airport and inspected the arrangements being made for the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. Speaking to reporters she said, the PM’s visit to the Chennai would create a big impact on the Tamil Nadu politics. The party members have planned to accord a warm reception to Modi upon his arrival.
