Truck mows down nine students, manhunt on

A truck killed nine students from Rampura Phul of Bhatinda district on Wednesday, leaving four injured.

The students were waiting on the road for an alternate after their bus broke down.

The accused driver fled the spot immediatel­y after the incident.

According to reports, the truck rammed into a Tata Sumo following which it crushed the students under its wheels.

The accident took place owing to the thick blanket of smog that had enveloped the region.

These were students of different colleges and coaching classes in Bathinda.

Bathinda DC Diprava Lakra and SSP Naveen Singla rushed to the spot. Meanwhile, the Punjab government has decided to close all the government, private aided and recognised schools throughout the state for 3 days owing to the smog and inclement weather.

A statement, issued by education minister, Punjab, Aruna Chaudhary, stated that schools would remain shut from November 9 to November 11.

Haryana chief secretary, D.S. Dhesi on Tuesday directed the officers of Agricultur­e and Farmers’ Welfare Department to speed up the installati­on of hi-tech custom hiring centres of straw management machinery with the optimum and economical viable use of straw baler.

He emphasised that HAREDA should carry out the process bio-mass pallets plants at the earliest so that farmers may get remunerati­ve price of their crop residue approx `6000 per acre for sale of crop residue in biomass plants.
