Nawaz’s ex sends him legal notice, demands `2 crores

- PRATYUSH PATRA

After actress Niharika Singh, Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s ex-girlfriend and “first love” Sunita Rajwar, a noted TV and theatre personality, also slammed his book An Ordinary Life, which was recently withdrawn by the actor. But the controversy seems far from dying down. Sunita, who had earlier written a long Facebook post calling out Nawaz for lying about why they broke up, a few days back sent him a legal notice demanding two crore rupees as compensation for causing great mental agony and seeking to tarnish her image.

The copy of the sevenpage legal notice, which Sunita shared with The Asian Age, notifies the actor, co-author Rituparna Chatterjee and publishers of the book. The notice states that Nawaz’s claim that she dumped him because he wasn’t successful is merely a figment of his imagination. By portraying her as someone “who drove Nawaz to think of committing suicide”, the book h a s defamed her. She also alleges that the false portrayal was meant for publicity and adding masala. She claims that while withdrawal of the book establishes that Nawaz had been lying, the book is still available on major E-commerce sites and much damage has already been done. The notice tells all parties involved that they have committed an offence under Section 499 of IPC and rendered themselves liable to pay for the damages. The notice states that `2,00,00,000 will be used by her not for personal gains, but will be donated to charity. It also demands an unconditional apology.

Sunita, a 1997 graduate of National School of Drama and a married woman now, says her Facebook post and the legal notice state everything there is to say. However, on much prodding, she answers why she chose to file a legal notice now.

“I had already mentioned earlier that I am going to take legal action because damage is already done and its irreversible, and moreover withdrawal of the memoir turned out to be another gimmick as the book is still in circulation,” she says and informs that she hasn’t spoken to or met Nawaz in the last 16 years or so.
