- AMITA VERMA

The BJP in Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday, released its manifesto for the municipal elections promising ‘pink toilets’ for women and free Wi-Fi at public places. Releasing the ‘Sankalp Patra’, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath and state BJP president Mahendra Nath Pandey said that the party would work to ensure that all the promises in the document are fulfilled in record time. Mr Yogi said that if the BJP comes to power in the local bodies, development process would be increased and there would be better coordination form the center down to the grassroots level.

He also stated that there was no opposition left in the state and all that remained would be finished in the upcoming municipal polls. The BJP manifesto, meanwhile, promises better facilities to tackle the menace of water-shortage and waterlogging. The state government has promised to change all the street lights to LED to reduce power consumption.

In line with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the manifesto promises an aid of `2.5 lakh to the poor (1.5 lakh from the Centre and `1 lakh from the state) to provide affordable housing.

The chief minister promised housing that has road connectivity, hygienic surroundings, and safe drinking water. The manifesto also promises to make the towns open defecation free and an aid of `20,000 will be given to building toilets to homes that do not have one.

The BJP has promised better solid waste management and thereby, cleaner cities. Mr Yogi said that his government would ensure rehabilitation facilities for the roadside vendors.

He said that a registration will be done for the same. Better public transport system and metro connectivity in major cities is also on the BJP wish list.

Mr Yogi said that his party will work with the motto of ‘One District, One Product’ which means that production of one traditional product from every district will be promoted. He said this will also create opportunities for employment in the state.
