PNB set up final date with PSB

Punjab National Bank defeated Railway Sports Promotion Board 5- 4 via a penalty shootout in the second semi- final of the 54th Nehru senior men’s hockey tournament at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in the capital on Monday.

They thus set up a final clash with Punjab and Sind Bank, who had got the better of Comptrolle­r and Auditor General of India in the first semi- final by a 3- 2 margin on Sunday.

On the day, the teams were locked 1- 1 in regulation time taking the game into penalties, where the bankmen prevailed.

In the shootout, Arjun Antil missed for PNB while RSPB too drew blank when Sheshe Gowda failed to find the net.

Thereafter, PNB were on target as Shamsher Singh, Gagandeep Singh Senior, Hardeep Singh and Sukhjit Singh converted their chances.

For RSPB, Kinjan Topno, Raju Pal and Pradeep Singh scored but Manpreet missed the crucial last chance that handed the final berth to PSB.

Earlier, Manpreet opened the scoring for RSPB in the 32nd minute while Sikhjit Singh fetched the equaliser for PSB in the 47th minute.

The final will be played under floodlight­s on Tuesday.
