Cops, DCW chief clash over raids on GB Road brothel

-

New Delhi, Nov. 24: The Delhi Police on Friday rescued three women from a brothel at GB Road in the capital, even as the Delhi Commission For Women ( DCW) chief, Swati Jaihind, alleged that 14 the police allowed 14 other women to stay back at the brothel.

The police, however, said the 14 women were found to be above 18 years of age as per their Aadhaar cards, but they were staying there of their own volition.

A 27- year- old woman pimp, who was allegedly involved in confining the three women in the brothel, was arrested, the police said.

On a tip off, the Child Welfare Committee informed the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch after the former had received a complaint from an NGO that some women were being held forcibly held captive at a brothel on GB Road, said a senior police officer. The 17 women found there were counseled by the non- government organisations ( NGOs), out of which, three claimed they were kept there against their wishes.

The three women, who were in the age group of 19 to 26 years, claimed that they were forced into flesh trade, not paid wages and raped repeatedly, the police officer said. A case was lodged on the basis of their statements, he said.

The women were from Nepal and brought to Delhi on the pretext of a good job or for marriage, cops said.
