Velocity- Polywood, PPW, Warriors begin with wins

Velocity- Polywood Polo Academy, People Prime Worldwide and Sahara Warriors Achievers opened with wins in the IPG Col.

Girdhari Singh Memorial Cup eight- goal polo tournament that got under way with nine teams in the fray at the Jaipur grounds here on Tuesday.

The tournament is being played on a half cross league basis with the nine teams divided into three pools. Pool A consists of Velocity- Polywood Polo Academy, IPG Bedla, 24 Secure Polo, Pool B has Cavalry- Navy, Adie Broswon, People Prime Worldwide, and Pool C includes Jindal Panther, Sahara Warriors Achievers and Aravali Polo. The top team from each pool and one best team of the losers will be met in the semi finals on Saturday.

In the first natch, VelocityPo­lywood Polo Academy beat 24 Secure Polo 10- 9, Bhawani Singh Kalvi leading the way with noine goals and Tarun Sirohi rounding off the scoring while for 24 Secure Polo, Samir Suhag hit five goals, while Dhruvpal Godara and Akshai Malik had a brace each.

People Prime Worldwide got the better of Adie Broswon in another close conmtest, winning 6- 5. For PPW, Angad Kalaan scored three goals, Eugenio Espinar two and Janmejai Singh rounded off the tally while for Adie Broswon, Basheer Ali ( 3), Gaurav Sahgal and Mahesh Sharma got on the scoresheet.

In the final game of the day, Sahara Warriors Achievers routed Aravali Polo 10- 1, Matthew Perry ( 3), Salim Azmi ( 5) and Raghav Rao ( 2) their scorers while Aravali Polo’s only goal came from Uday Kalaan.
