Tihar row: Authorities give report to ministry
Tihar jail authorities have informed the Union home ministry that security personnel involved in an incident in which some Kashmiri prisoners were beaten up on the night of November 21- 22 have been removed from duty.
The prison authorities in its report also informed the ministry that it has constituted two separate inquiry panels to probe the assault incident and while the first penal is headed by a district judge, the second committee would be headed by a commandant of the Tamil Nadu special police which is deployed at Tihar Jail for security purposes.
The home ministry on Wednesday had sought a detailed report from the jail administration after J& K CM Mehbooba Mufti spoke to home secretary Rajiv Gauba expressing concern over the Kashmiri inmates being beaten up inside the prison premises by the security guards.
Home ministry sources said Centre has taken a serious note of the incident and if any security personnel were found to be involved stringent action would be taken against them. Sources claimed that Tihar authorities have been asked to complete the probe within a fixed timeframe and inform the home ministry about the findings and action initiated against those involved.
In its report to the ministry, prison authorities claimed that out of 25 prisoners lodged inside a high security ward, 18 were referred to AIIMS.
