NDMCto beautify Delhi for coming Asean summit

Gearing up to welcome delegates coming for Asean summit to be held in next year in New Delhi, the North Delhi Municipal Corporatio­n ( NDMC) has decided to beautify the area and remove encroachme­nt.

To take stock of preparatio­ns regarding Associatio­n of South East Asian Nations ( Asean) summit to be in the capital held from Jan. 19 to 30 next.

NDMC mayor Preety Agarwal on Thursday inspected various places around Jama Masjid, Meena Bazar and Chandni Chowk.

While inspecting Jama Masjid, Ms Agarwal directed the civic officials that the encroachme­nt in front of gate number 3 be removed and beautifica­tion around all gates of the mosque be done immediatel­y.

“During the Asean summit, delegates from different countries would visit heritage sites of Delhi and then, the corporatio­n should be responsibl­e enough to ensure sanitation at these places. Cleanlines­s has been taken care of in the parks in the Jama Masjid area,” said Ms Agarwal.

She expressed dismay over the insanitary conditions of Meena Bazar and directed the municipal officials that toilets in the said area be cleaned regularly.

The NDMC mayor also said that vehicle parking at Jagat Cinema Hall near Meena Bazar be redevelope­d.

Stating that an first infoprmati­on report ( FIR) has been lodged against NDMC land and estate department for encroachin­g a building, she said action should be taken in this regard.
