Burglars in national capital have upped their ante and have sent the Delhi police into tizzy. In a recent incident, burglars decamped with a silver umbrella weighing approximately 11 kg ( an ornament used to place on god’s idol head), silver utensils and cash box containing ` 85,000 and other items from Sai Baba temple at Chilla Village in Mayur Vihar area. The theft took place on Tuesday night.

The masked burglars, after they break open the lock, sneaked inside the temple, turned CCTV cameras up towards to sky and later cut wires before they decamped with valuables worth lakhs of rupees.

According to the police, the priest of the temple lives on the second floor of the building while the temple is on the ground floor.

In a statement to the police, priest Banke Bihari said that he had locked the temple at about 11 pm on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, when he opened the temple’s door, valuables, including a silver umbrella weighing approximately 11 kg, silver utensils ( five), and cash box containing ` 85,000, were missing.

He further said that the temple was ransacked.

The police and the squad visited the spot and carried out a detailed investigation. According to a police official, the temple is situated near Amity School in Chilla Village. The priest, who stays with his family in the building which houses the temple, didn’t realise about the theft.

The police has ordered an inquest into the same. As the men had covered their faces it is difficult to ascertain their identity.

A case has been registered in Mayur Vihar phase I in this connection and probe is underway. The Supreme Court on Wednesday relaxed the notification banning use of petcoke and furnace oil in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana for industries like cement, lime stone and thermal power plants in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

While cement and lime industries use petcoke, thermal power plants use furnace oil.

A bench of Justices Madan B. Lokur and Deepak Gupta also issued a direction to the ministry of environment, forest affairs and climate change ( MoEF & CC) to frame guidelines for regulating the use of petcoke.

The bench also exempted the lime stone industries from the purview of the October 24 order in respect of the use of petroleum coke.
