In an unprecedented move, South Delhi Municipal Corporation ( SDMC) mayor Kamlajeet Sehrawat on Wednesday suspended 12 Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP) councillors from House meetings for 15 days.

Ms Sehrawat described the unprecedented ruckus, scuffle, tearing of the MCD act and transcription papers of the female employees in the house as a black chapter in the history of the house. Ms Sehrawat alleged that the AAP members came prepared to disrupt the proceedings and malign the democratic values apart from raising loud slogans and creating obstacles in the functioning of the treasury bench members. “Despite my repeated requested to allow the house to function as per listed agenda but they ( AAP) had their own disruptive agenda to follow,” she said. The AAP members jumped in the well of the house and shouted slogans. The mayor asked them to cooperate as the house is being convened only once in a month and their disruptive attitude will deny the members the chance to raise the issue of public interests for which they came prepared.

As the AAP councillors paid no heed to the mayor’s instructions, she suspended 12 members of the AAP from the meeting of the house for 15 days.

“This is the last resort with her as prescribed in the Rule 73 of the MCD Act,” she added.

The suspended members are leader of opposition Ramesh Matiala, Prem, Dinesh Kumar, Gurmukh Singh, Jitender Kumar, BS Joon, Praveen Kumar Jha, Ajit Singh Sehra, Dinesh Kumar Doshi and Sooraj Prakash Jingala, Kishhanvati and Urmila Yadav.

Condemning the pre determined dramatic acts of AAP members in the house, the Leader of House in SDMC Shikha Roy alleged that Mr Matiala instigated his fellow members to create hurdles in the functioning of the house.

“The AAP members tarnished the sanctity of the elected house,” said Ms Rai.
